Mikuni carb, as used by Dactec

There was a Mikuni carb that was used on the Dactecs, that was almost an updated Wal Phillips injector, but using an integral fuel pump to act as a float bowl. I know they used only two jets, of the same physical dimensions.

Does anyone know the model and availability?

Yep ! Super BN Mikuni ! Get on E-Bay ! Cheep as chip's ! I'v got the 38mm one for my KX300 conversion !

Using one of these carbs on my Rotax conversion and can't get the thing to fuel properly. Messing around with the pop off pressure and such but to no avail. Anyone had any luck getting one to work? Pop off pressure is set at 32psi. If I hold my hand over the carb top whilst cranking, I can get the fuel to collect on the butterfly. If I don't cover the inlet, I don't get anything. I'm leaning towards the pop off being set too high as the inlet pressure is not enough to overcome this unless the inlet is covered (increasing the pressure/resistance in the carb). I know the jet ski guys have a similar issue when they remove the stock air cleaner, exhaust, etc. Thoughts?

Just out of interest......why use this oddity with all its quirks and risks, what's the application benefit?

Should of seen the look on my mates face when the throttle mechanism jumped off and left him at full revs :mrgreen:

Couple reasons why I chose to try the SBN carb.

Easy to tune with the external screws for high and low speed adjusting

Integral fuel pump so it can be mounted above outlet in fuel tank w/o need for additional fuel pump

Mounts vertically so I don't have to cut the side panel for air filter

Flange mount directly to the reed block to avoid having any lean, burn down conditions due to damaged carb rubber

Same carb as installed by Sea Doo on their 587 jetskis, which have the same top end as my Rotax 583 project. Figured I could use the same jetting specs, etc as the jetski guys and at least get close.

***Update: Kept adjusting the pop-off spring and eventually got it low enough to where the engine would draw in enough fuel to fire up the engine. Once fired, it revved nicely and actually idled fairly decently. Think I'll install the primer kit they advertise that acts like a cold start accelerator pump of sorts. Anyways, onwards and upwards!
