currently running a detuned ts1 125/180 28mm pwk 60mm mb clubman

pulls like a train so is there any advantage to this sort of set up with a fancy ignition advance retard unit....?

or is it more for the peaky type/high timings and chamber setups?

Anyway to answer your question, advance / retard or variable units can help you run safe ignition timings at various rev ranges. So more advance at lower revs retarding as the revs rise. This can keep heat build up down at high revs and ease starting. If you fit one you'll probably need to rejet to suit.

What's your motivation for wanting to try it? You said it pulls fine, what are you hoping to gain?

Detuned I mean dropped timings....

motivation? just usual curiosity that we all have, (if i tweak this will it go faster) ;)

i assumed it was designed more to spread the power of a peaky setup but was just wondering if anyone had tried it with a similar setup to mine

you need to be very selective in what kind of curve you choose, the agusto units have a preset curve, and other units have more than one built in. some units let you program your own.
The thing to think about is what kind of riding you do, and whether you can build reliability in to match this.
Because you have what i imagine to be a torquey set up, you will probably be cruising at lower revs than a peaky revver. Therefore you need to pay special attention as to when the unit retards the timing. for example, i believe the agusto unit names correspond to what rpm they start to retard, so if you were to buy the 8000 you would probably be cruising below the rpm where the unit retards the timing, therefore you will be cruising at an advanced timing that will cause serious engine failure if you decide to sit on a long piece of road with advanced timing.

Now im sure you can find a unit that works for you, and you should expect a bit more bottom end due to the advance, and the ability to rev better at high rpm due to the retarded timing, but be warned, these are not simple bolt on kits, and if set up incorrectly you can really fudge things up.

The number equates to the revs where max retard is reached although some have reported that some units continue to retard as revs rise beyond that which is not a bad thing. Mine started to retard from around 2k or 3k RPM.

Still curious on the 125 / 180 bit...short stroke or something oddball? I thought TS1 came in 200 or 225??

https://sites.google.com/site/kheperignitioncopy/ It lets you program your own curve
TS1 and PX stay in the garage (future barn finds) out on the GTS 300 when I go out on a scooter.
I know I’ll get there and back
