Hello

When doing a bit of engine fiddling whilst t weather's a bit poo I noticed the gear-cluster has a bit of axial movement. I can pull it out (about 0.8mm I think but it's tricky measuring it) and then push it back in again. This is with the clutch removed and with the gearbox end plate still in place. It doesn't wobble at all. I'm pretty sure last time I built the gearbox I did fit the gear-cluster shim behind the largest gear.
It got me thinking because when I took a series 1 engine apart the gear-cluster in that that has no axial movement at all but still turns freely.
I think it's ok as the gear-cluster will 'pull up' into position when the clutch nut is tightened and it will not be able to move back in. I'm pretty sure it's always been like this too, since putting the engine together years ago (Indian casing and endplate, Italian GP200 gearbox) and doing many thousands of miles......but just thought I'd ping it out there for peace of mind.

cheers

Agreed

Hello

Thanks for your replies. Thought so......but 'perfectly normal' for a Lambretta is oft feckin weird.

Cheers, I shall carry on putting it back together.
