I thought I had cured the kickstart issue, but, a couple of weeks after it working perfectly, it is missing first gear again  I have gone through fours Pistons now, each last s a few weeks before starting to slip and they all look like this:

as you can see they are all getting rounded at the ends. I have bought these from different places, all supposed to be 'quality' parts, the Casa one cost me 25 £ so not cheap.

any thoughts before I replace yet another! And I have also replaced the shaft with a CamLam one in are it was that :?:

By the looks of it you have identified that a picture paints a thousand words but you, like hundreds before you, are struggling to post pics :D

There's probably easier ways but I host my pics on the site below, then cut and paste the picture's URL between the brackets (just click on "img" at the top of the page when you post). An example of a URL is:

Don't leave any gaps.

Can you post pics of your top clutch plate, first gear teeth, and the kickstart shaft please ;)

just go on Photobucket and set up a free account, it's all set up for photo sharing in numerous formats including the img format required by most forum sites. You just click your uploaded photo and the different format options appear, click on the IMG option and it says 'copied', then just paste it into the post. It really is that easy 8-)

Have you got the GP type endplate with the fixed ramp or the LI type which is adjustable? It may be that the position of thye ramp needs adjusting.

I think your problem lies elsewhere.

Yes the pix show damage to the pistons, but I've seen far worse on systems that still operate well. And to have 4 pistons "fail" in such a short time is unheard of IMO.

Its as if there IS some wear occuring on the K/S piston teeth, which is causing total failure of the system before it should occure.

Is the corresponding gear it engages on badly worn?

Is the gear set in the correct position in relation to the K/S mechanism ( putting it crudely, is there any chance the whole gear set is too far towards the N/S for some reason thus exacerbating wear on the K/S piston before it should??)

Is the K/s shaft slightly bent??

Somethings not right, and simply replacing the piston set up may cure the immediate problem, but isn't curing the underlying cause.

Can you here anything or better still feel anything on the end of the kickstart shaft with the bike running. It looks like it's rubbing on 1st gear all the time.
