I need to tap the threads on a series 3 horn cast but I need a tap that pulls the swarf out. I'm told their are two types one for closed threads and one for open?

any kind soul point me in the right direction

Normal hand taps will do starter, second and plug or a single machine tap. Either way lubricate and clear tap and swarf out regularly

the tap you speak of is called a spiral flute, as opposed to a spiral point. try using that in a google search. if you get stuck PM me.

I thought all taps made for cutting a thread cleared the swarf,surely thats the point,they clean the thread as you cut.

Depends on the hole. If its a through hole then the swarf is forced through and out the bottom of the hole. If it's a blind hole the profile of the cutting edge makes the swarf come out the top of the hole to stop binding.
On hand tapped holes none of this is really relevant as you should clear the swarf as you go no matter which tap you use. Common sense really.

or use tapsticks. they are a soft tallow stick that pops into the hole and as you tap the thread they get forced back out the hole taking the swarf with them

If you've a compressor handy, just blow it out as you're going along, saves buying a new tap.
