mikeck repacking - sorted thanks

having problems with my 80s mk 6 mikeck, the end plate came adrift and caused the rivet holes on the alloy can to ovalise. so i took it apart, bit of a struggle as the can has been bashed around in its life. i welded the plate back on, repacked it and put it all back together, but performance was dire, felt really strangled, whereas the bike had been going fine before i did this.
I'm trying to work out how the baffles work and where the gases flow...
should I be able to put a rod or something right down the end pipe into the expansion, on mine it stops about 8" in, not sure if that was always the case. looks like some sort of mesh in there..?
I've lowered a bulb down and can see holes in the tube within the larger section, but there doesn't seem to be any way of the gases escaping the expansion bit... I really hope I haven't f@@ked it up by bashing it around to get the can on. I will get some more alloy tubing tomorrow and repack it again, just packing the half of the can, around the thin bit at the end.
any advice ?

patchw ?
stokie ~ I've pm'd you
I'll probably just put it back together and see if it gets back to its former revvy self. I hope so as I love this pipe.

Might be worth seeing if you can track down Eric Jack - formerly of Mikeck

thanks Stokie, that's useful, I'll look into that.
the main thing is knowing whether one should be able to push a rod all the way into the expansion part...
I guess I could blow some air in and see if and how it comes out the end... maybe time to find the hairdryer and have a cigar...
and cheers for pm. :shocking: you have been busy at home then! no wonder your scooter is taking a back seat just now

i had one of these a few years back which i eventually disected..

make sure you only pack the rear section (left hand side in your pic) if i remember rightly the first section is a sort of matrix of tubes and holes to do some silencing and only the second half needs the wadding..

if you stuff the first half with wadding i think you are effectively blocking the flow of gasses.. hence your performance problem.
