+1 but try to position it so that the probe faces the rear just to protect it a bit. Difficult to achieve though due to the position of the bend.

its going on a b-race, there is a fair bit of room so will be able to tuck it out of the way. so is the measurement taken from tdc or bdc ?.cheers simon

It's from the side of the piston, so TDC or BDC doesn't matter

It does not have to be exactly 100mm, measure from piston to exhaust gasket face on cylinder then from exhaust gasket face on stub or exhaust, add thickness of gasket and mark the u bend. You create your own reference of the reads you get, if you get an air leak or so, you will notice a raise in temp. From your own reference when everything was fine...

thanks for the info, I no what I am doing now . will have a measure up and weld the stub on for the probe. will take a pic or two of the progress. cheers simon
