Obviously im going to need a 12v battery to power it properly,so my question is.......What battery??
Im running a 12v electronic AC system, but I have a Vespa PX electric start regulator with the extra terminal to trickle charge a battery.
A small dry cell battery would seem ideal (intruder alarm type),if so,anyone have any idea which one would suit?

Hi Kev,sounds like an alarm battery would do the trick. How much space do you have?Maplins are bound to sell them.Got to be worth a try.

A quick nose in Maplins it is then, the smaller the better,as I wouldn't mind having it fitted behind the horncasting (series 1)

If you only need dc power to run it you could use a modcharger under the horn casting. Obviously you get power only when the bike is running. Depends if it needs a dc supply for memory. My Acewell holds its data without.

Possibly it will need a supply for the 'memory',so i thought a small battery hidden away would be ideal!
Ive seen this sort for sale, what do you reckon?
12 volt 1.2ah Alarm Battery

Brand new 12 volt 1.3ah battery (Replacing the 1.2ah Battery)

Dimensions

(LxWxH) 97mm x 43mm x 58mm
Hopefully re-charging while riding wont 'cook' it!

I have used that smaller battery on my series 1 for 3 years, never cooked it but I am running full DC. They are designed for a constant trickle charge in an alarm box and Im sure lots of others are using them. Its not that small thinking about the horne casting. Again dont short it out so covers on your spade connections.
I found the drawings for your gauge online and it shows the battery isolated by an ignition switch so it looks like it has its own onboard battery to retain memory so in theory all you need is a constant DC supply when in use.

Never thought of that!!
When i get round to fitting it ill have a play and see what works best,if its fine without the battery then happy days!!
