Hydraulic hose - Complicated, innit?

I am fitting a P200 disc master cylinder and SIP caliper to a SS90 copy.
I have purchased banjo bolts, and a tight 90 degree bend for the top end, but now I have got 2m of braided hose and it looks like I have compatibility issues.
The braided hose is covered in plastic which gives it an external diameter of 7.5mm. Other hoses I have are 6.5mm. The ID of the ferrule that fits over the OD of the hose is 5.3mm, so it never gonna fit. Having said that, the bore of the hose matches the bore of the fitting.
Meanwhile, I have other banjos that are sloppy in the bore of the hose.
Are there some "rules" about compatibility of these components?
