I'm just working on a restorations and the gear change is siezed on. I've got them off before but I don't want to wreck the gear change, any suggestions?

Do you mean on the handlebar end? If so ive done this before where ive used a heat gun (not a flame one), lots of wd40 and a hide / rubber mallet. Lots of time and patience will get it sorted. assuming you've stripped all you can and it's not just something internal in the headset thats in the way.

Thanks Donnie, yes the end part. I've wondered about leaving it to soak in diesel or whatever.

if the headset is off you could do i suppose, personally, if leaving to soak ive done it still on the scooter and soaked in wd plus a tea towel wrapped round it also soaked in same overnight.
