Doing up a local lad's scoot and have had a gert big steel eye welded onto the frame so he can chain it up. Have done Wassell 12V DC conversion and all electrics working. Now for added security thinking of installing a keyswitch in his toolbox to isolate both power to headset and ignition circuits. Can get a 5Amp key switch with NC/NO contacts which will do the job, but is that man enough at 5Amp? I could just put a switch in to isolate his ignition, but anyone passing by could switch his lights on and leave his battery to drain.

Why bother with a key-switch inside the toolboxes? Why not just fit a switch? You can source a switch of a suitable rating without any issue or great expense, and both circuits will be beyond operation by being locked inside the tool box.

Having said that, if the thief takes the panel off and pull the green wire out of the CDI a, the scooter will start, key or no key.

Waste of time if you ask me as the biggest threat is some tw@7 sticking it a van and buggering off with it, switch and all.

Stick with the chain... ;)

Will speak to him about fitting an ignition switch in the headset, but is there much fettling to fit a Series 3 ignition switch where the cut out button goes?

The biggest problem is with the remade switches they tend to be a bit bigger and the rubber cover can make them a but bulky at the back. I had to dremel out a a rib under the switch and loose a bit of the switch case to get it to fit in deep enough on an LI series 3. They will fit all depends if he is a bit iffy about using a dremel.
