I've got one similar to this fitted;

It's simple to fit (mines bolted to the top of my glovebox) with the wire fed into the glovebox and through the frame coming out under the engine sidepanel and just wrapped around the HT lead before the sparkplug. Mines been on for ages now, about two years, with no problems, although I don't know how long the internal battery is meant to last. I find it's much more accurate for speed than the speedo (checked against a GPS for revs=mph in 4th gear).
The only bad point with mine is it hasn't got an internal light so it's pretty difficult (impossible) to see when riding at night.
There are loads of other different types out there but I'm a fan of keeping things simple
