My mate has a rapido fitted.can you get different size base gaskets and head gaskets to get the squish set correctly. Currently it's over 1.5mm cause it won't even dent the solder I use.will I get them from af Cheers Graeme

Build it with no gaskets first to get a squish measurement

Thanks. Am I right in saying this kit didn't come with a head. Could it be possible that the head that's fitted does not suit the kit. Not stripped it yet.cheers Graeme

Is it definitely a 70mm head?mWhere is the piston in relation to the top of the barrel at TDC?

Agree with wacks tho' build without gaskets first and measure, then it's arithmetic.

The kits don't come with a head but AF have a 9.5 comp skimmed one or a low comp 8.5 one.

i first built mine as it came with a gasket this was about 13 years ago and it ran fine. when it came to rebuild later and with more knowledge about things like squish i tried to measure it but could not get a reading so left out gasket and came out at about 1.3-1.5 iirc so seal it with bathroom silicone and has never let me down. i have always belived these kits would suit a longer stroke as the piston does not fully clear the exhaust at bdc either. after all these years i do have a 60x110 bgm but it came available too late for the last rebuild with the cyclone so ill have to wait a bit longer.

All sorted. Took out the 1mm head gasket and fitted a 0.5mm to give a squish of 1.5mm exactly. By the way the head was already an af. Happy days thanks for everyone's input. Graeme

Happy days, just make sure that you take a few measurements as I did the same thing with the head gasket, then lapped the head on a piece of glass to make sure it was level, a quick way was to mark the gasket face with a marker pen, this will show any high areas when lapped, and don t forget to seal the head when fitting..........hope this helps..... 8-)

Done an air test on it and everything's all good.
