Hi all
i have a 3 piece flywheel, gp boss, (i think) vespa wheel, and plastic fan. Believed to be an old beedspeed conversion with stator comprised of PE ignitio parts on a lammy backing plate.
the flywheel needs putting together, and im pretty sure the consensus will be to bolt it together; is this something i can do myself or is it worth taking it somewhere as its a pretty important component that needs to be solid and balanced.
also, how do i work out where the boss goes in order to make the keyway in some sort of position to set the timing up with minimal hassle?
also, the boss has a slight gouge in it, is it worth replacing or will it be fine, im planning to lap it to my crank anyway, thoughts?
cheers all!
flywheel; bolt or rivet?

Hi ollie
Its easy enough to line up , the keyway should be at 9 oclock at tdc and the pick up on the stator should be in the area of the "fingers"/ triggers on the mangets on the flywheel. there are only 8 possible position combinations so it should be obvious which is correct. Use high tensile bolts to bolt it up .
I did one of these conversions in the 80s, and was amazed how the vespa and lambretta parts are interchangable . Not knowing then , that the vespa system, is infact the lambretta/ducati ignition design ,that vespa adopted after the demise of innocenti, and they ditched their femsatronic system.

alright mate!
thats really helpful. Im really hoping ive managed to grab myself a really cheap but also reliable kit here. Did you notice a difference with the flywheel weight? im hoping/assuming its not as light as an af version, as i think that would be a bit too extreme for my tune and gearing.
hope all is well with you!
