hi folks!

My kickstart (Gp150 engine) feels like it is wasting half a kick. When I press it down with my foot nothing really happens for about 2 or 3 inches meaning I'm not getting much of a kick. The only way I can get a full kick it to tilt up the scooter to one side on the stand and kick it from there. The mteal tab is connecting with the rubber on the frame so it at least looks like it's in the right position. Any thoughts anyone? Many thanks :)

It's a well known problem with the GP as the kickstart it not adjustable. The cure involves removing the gearbox endplate and cutting the ramp part off. You then need to obtain an Li type ramp and fit it to the chaincase cover by drilling and tapping the cover (the cover has the positions already cast in). It will then be possible to slide the new ramp to allow the piston to engage earlier.

More work, time, money! I don't think it was this bad before my rebuild so I am going to try and move the kicktart up a couple of splines before i try anything more adventourous :D

Coaster option is a good one.

But I also find the splines on each kickstart can be different, so swapping kickstarts around can sometimes help resolve.
(Note before removing kickstart, always mark in pencil the gap onto the end of kickstart shaft (so you can always get back into same position)

Good advice on the marking the gap, thanks. What other kickstarts would be worth trying? Do you mean kickstarts from other models of scooters?

Thats the easiest way to do it.Just remove the kickstart and move it anti-clockwise a couple of splines.Push the kickstart on to the first part of the splines and push down until the kickstart is under the bump stop on the case, then push it all the way home.As long as the teeth dont catch on first gear, your good to go.

Just grind about 6mm off the GP endplate flat area at the top of the slope ,this allows the piston to come out sooner.

I've got the same problem, I'm going to try Wacks suggestion as its a lot less hassle.
