This scooter is driving me round the bend!

I have had the engine rebuilt (gp150) and now when I kick her over it will kick fine for a while but every now and then there is a click and it just hits the floor. When it first started doing this a few days ago I thought it was the kickstart piston so I ordered a new one. The new piston arrived today and I have just fitted it, all looks well inside the side casing, nothing looks worn or damaged. I have just fitted a Mugello kit and had new clutch springs and plates put in. Despite all of this after a couple of kicks it did it again! Any thoughts much appreciated as I am losing my patience with this scoot!!! :(

Could be there are teeth missing on your first gear  Is it a newish Indian kickstart shaft by any chance? I've had one that was machined incorrectly so the piston wouldn't engage properly. Also, just check the top clutch plate. Is it scored by catching on the kickstart shaft?

Brand new mate, bought from Scooter Restorations a couple of weeks ago.

Funny, that's what I did too. Had a nice SIL hologram on too. I wonder if the hologram is still attached in whatever tip it ended up in.

Conventional wisdom says the GP shaft is better. However, I've run these in several tuned scoots for several years. No problems. If you buy one and lie it next to the SIL variety, you'll notice the difference in quality.

Does the piston move in and out of the kickstart shaft without sticking and is the piston spring pushing the piston out far enough to engage first gear.

Had this on a new build, just file the slot so the kick piston pokes out further when kicking it over, think mine was a pattern part, worked for me.

Might well try this next time I have to take the side casing off. Which will not be until I ABSOLUTLEY HAVE to! :D
