GP forks

Hi guys. I purchased a freshly built Italian GP 150 from a fairly local fella a few months back.
The forks have now developed quite a bit of movement, which I noticed when grabbing the front brake when riding. Was making a knocking noise.
Most of the movement when grabbing the forks is front to back as apposed to left / right.
Could this be that they simply need tightening up at the top?
I'm crap with the spanners, but intend to use Stickys bible, and try and sort it myself!
It looks like a big job due to removing the complete headset to get to the fork top, so I'm leaving myself a spare day to sort it.
Any tips lads before I get stuck in?!

It's most likely that the top just needs tightening.

It shouldn't be that big a job once you've got the headset off, undo the handlebar yoke pinch bolt and remove it. You should then be able to lift the lower headset up enough to get to the steering rings. Just be careful not to stretch your cables or loom
