I've had an engine in the garage for a while but we sold the Mrs's small frame some time ago and I'd forgotten about it. ( I was keeping it as a spare)
Looking at it earlier I tried to ID it but the No. isn't on any site I can find.
8" wheel , 125 stamped on flywheel , Douglas and Piagio on casing and judging by the website I found earlier because of where the number is it should be large frame engine.
I know nothing of these Vespa's so anyone have an idea what it's off of?

looks like a 152l2 or earlier engine . 3 speed and very slow. someone will want it for a resto.

Couldn't find a match for the number on Scooter help or anywhere , not sure why it's different to those listed.

had a quick look at me book of numbers, and couldn't find it either. might be a rod model or summat early. ive got some really early manuals in a cupboard somewhere with lists of frame and engine numbers in, I"ll see if I can find them.

Wouldn't the very early engines not be of a "2 piece" arrangement rather than the conventional moulded as one type cases we're familiar with?

It's hard to tell from what I can see from the pictures but it does appear to be a 152L2 or similar. The last one I had got sold for a fiver as an ornament and TBH I was glad to get that.

Douglas produced frame and emgine numbers didn't follow the Italian system.

I bought a Sportique from Dave a few years back because he couln't find a match on the numbers,

Funny you should ask that, I posted a similar queery a few weeks ago http://scooterotica.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31713 I also asked on the vespa owners forum and it was edging towards being of Douglass origin due to having an Amal carb. Mines piston ported though.
