Hi

I've managed to strip the headlight thread on my GP headstock. I'm thinking of repairing the thread myself using this

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/prod ... it-m4-x0-7

Do I have the correct size thread for this bolt?

Expensive for one thread innit, don't you have a welder nearby or open the thread up to 5mm. I know it's not original but neither is a helicoil.

I got some nuts the same thread as the origonal screws and fixed them behind the lugs with i think its called "steel weld" glue. Once it had gone off worked a treat, been on there a couple of years now

Used to use araldite then drill and tap it

Same fix as essexgp works a treat and much easier than drill and tap also a strong long lasting repair

just buy the helicoil kit. You've heard of them haven't you?

Do you know why you've heard of them? Because they're famous.

Do you know why they're famous? Because they're great.

I've been working in engineering maintenance and commissioning for 30 years now, so I'm not just spouting off. These things are used on expensive machines the world over when things go wrong and they work. Simple as that.
