After suffering a second fast flow fuel tap break down resulting in a rapid emptying of petrol all over my scoot and a petrol station floor I'm looking for an alternative or better tap. It is the part that's plastic on the end of the arm linking to the petrol lever that keeps failing and snaps off the main body letting petrol everywhere. Down right dangerous if it were to ignite whilst travelling.
Have you guys a better way to solve the problem I seem to keep getting or a suggestion as to a fast tap. The latest one to let go was a rear exit one from a well know dealer from a place where high education makes it famous.
Cheers,
fuel tap
hope you sent it back , under complaint, to the seat of Learning .

Was it an OMG Dave?
Ive had no trouble with those.
Is it fouling anywhere that would cause any stress on the part that's breaking.

Hi Steve, yes I think it was a OMG type I was certainly saying Oh My God when I found the petrol everywhere. I tried and tried to fix a way round it but ended up in the recovery van, the fuel tap I left in the bin at Tesco's petrol station.
I'm wondering if you can get a straight spigot type compression unit to just Bolt on the tank and push the pipe on that way, I realise there's turning the juice off or reserve but I think I could live with that.

Do you have a big carb on Dave and have to position the tap at too much of an angle for the lever to clear the carb ? Slightly slackening the two small screws that hold the plate can help the lever turn easier.
Hi Lloyd, yes I have a bigger carb so your correct in all your thoughts. I'll try your remedy though I'd really like a better quality all metal tap if their out there.
Do you know the thread size and pitch of the petrol tank/taps?

Hi
When I fitted a larger fuel tank, I found the tap and rod to the tap control would not meet nicely.
So I made a longer brass joint, I also use small R type clips (as used to retain brake pad pins in old car brake callipers) instead of split pins. Easy to take apart and very reusable.
Keep the faith (faith that your Lambretta WILL get you home).

Spanner check the running gear before every outing, like in the Army. You know it makes sense!
