Just got a SX 200 from a mate, it doesn’t seem to want to go into second gear, all other gears are fine the scooter drives great apart from said problem, any ideas

could be anything from the gearchange on the handlebars right down to the gearbox itself- sorry!!
Check all the basics first- cable tension; worn swivel on crank case; worn selector rod; clutch adjustment??? etc
If its not them then its a strip I'm afraid- sliding dog? (possible) worn gears (unlikely); internal selector mechanism (possible); worn bush where the selector arm passes thru the crankcase (pray its not that....); loose clamp on top of selector arm??
Good Luck- let us know IDC
Chris

Cheers for the quick response, the gear cables are fine as is the clutch, looks like a strip down, it’s just weird its only second gear that has the problem

yeah- certainly an odd one. Could it be that 2nd gear cog is missing????
Is it possible to build a gearbox with a missing cog?
Would be interested to learn of the outcome.
Good Luck- nice looking bike BTW

No it’s in there somewhere;

it does eventually go into second gear after a bit of fiddling and gear crunching :flaming:

Just wondering if you have the 2nd gear in the wrong way round. There isn't actually a right or wrong way for fitting them, it's just that they must all be the same way. One side has grove and the other is plain. I think if you had 2 plain side together they would tend to stick tohether and make it hard to select the gear. Could be wrong but I can't see what else would affect just 2nd gear given that the ones either side select ok
Ledt us know what you find

It does matter which way each gear goes round. If you have one the wrong way round you won't be able to select that gear as it will jump straight out of gear.
