while trying to remove my clutch nut with a 'professional' tool, i managed to crumple said 'professional' tool with very little effort (maximum 40Nm); don't buy one from ebay as part of a set of professional lambretta tools - will i ever learn?

that said, now that i've ordered another, i just want to check that there are no secret tips that i'm not aware of (first time i've stripped a lambretta engine)

it isn'y a left hand thread or something equally weird is it?

Check that the nut hasn't been centre punched. Other than that, the nut should come undone with little effort. If it's really tight, an impact driver should 'shock' it loose and finish of with a ratchet. It's probably down to the poor quality holder, once you use the quality one, you should be ok.

Try using one of the "professional" fork spring compressors: you'll never be able to play the piano again! The only left-hand thread is on the flywheel nut.

i tried an impact driver but all it did was bend the 'professional' clutch tool again - i stupidly straightened it out in the vain hope than it would 'be alreet next time'.

why do people make this s**t?

i must say, this is my first foray into the world of scooters for 25 years (been messing around with big bikes) and i'm astonished at how much crap is out there. obviously you can buy poor quality gear for kawasakis, hondas etc, but nothing like the level of cack you can get for lambrettas.

my compliments to mark broadhurst and the like who seem to be pursuing quality over price. as the saying goes "buy shite and pay twice".

Have to agree about the amount of crap for sale out there. I will only ever but genuine innocenti stuff from eBay now, even if it needs repairing. Most of the 'perfect fit' remade stuff is a joke quality wise. I did buy a complete tool set from MB and it's all superb quality. I'm sure with a decent clutch holder you'll be fine.
