Disk Brake speedo not connecting

I bought a disk brake conversion kit a month or so ago and it didn't come with a speedo worm and drive. So, I bought one and fitted it and it doesn't work. From what I can gather the worm bit doesn't connect with the drive inside the wheel. When I look up the worm housing with a torch I would of thought I'd be able to see a little bit of the drive pocking through, enough to connect to the worm but I can't see anything there. Has anyone any thoughts on this? I am sure I have put it on the right way round as I fitted the drive the same way as my old wheel.

Hope that makes sense!!!

Cheers :D

I fitted an outboard disc to one of my scooters. The speedo didn't work from day one. I tried new worm/wheel kits, several times. Occasionally it worked for a few miles. Eventually it gave up, so did i.
Decided to sell the bike after ten years of ownership and thought i would have one more go at the speedo drive. Fitted yet another new worm/wheel kit. Crucially, this time i deliberately fitted the wheel part slightly nearer the end of the spigot to which it is attached. .................. fixed it :o .............. then sold the scooter.

Haha! Typical eh? WHen you say "nearer the end of the spigot" doesn't it have to be flush?

That's point i think. I must have fitted every kit 'flush' with the spigot end and it would make contact with the worm, just. After a few miles the tops of the gears would wear and the kit stopped working.
So, the last attempt at fixing it, i fitted the wheel a few mm proud and the speedo worked fine.
