Lambretta rear shock recommendations

I need a new rear shock for my S1. I want something with decent performance, but not too hard ride wise. I have an old Escort damper, which I like, an Italian made standard damper, which I don't really like, and a 180lb R1 which I find too hard. I often ride 2 up and carry a fair bit of gear. So what would you recommend? Cheers

Back-off the pre-tension, compression and rebound settings on the R1: Can't see how that would be too hard for 2 up with luggage? Too short at 300m for a wide body maybe? But not too hard unless you are hitting the bump-stop? coz it is pooped maybe?

Yes I agree good shock. Although mine needs a rebuild now after 8000 miles of abuse.

Depends how much you want to spend. Upto £50 quid, Escorts, upto £100 Hagon, upto £150 Protech or Atomic or Readspeed, over £200 AF or PM. I took advice and bought the Hi Level adjustable shock as I wanted something standard looking to suit the style of the scoot it was going on. Fitted it for Shipston, but it didn't come with a C spanner as the dealer said they were an extra and didn't have any.It was on it's lowest setting and was awful, I borrowed a c spanner and adjusted it half way and it was still dire, kept hitting the bump stop and worried me into bends. I have now adjusted it fully, but need to road test it. I still believe it will be way too soft and I'm always riding solo with my camping gear. Not impressed at all. Just got AF's to re bush my chrome Escorts incase the Hi level doesn't want to play ball.

Cheers duck, I do know what you mean. The scoot it's going on is my 80's s type I've had from new and I keep trying to keep it as of the 80's as possible. I have a brand new Bitubo in me shed, but won't use that as I had two previous to that snap. I wanted a Pro tech, but aren't sure if it would look right when everything else is chrome, hence I bought the chrome hi level   . I can honestly say when me other gp goes on the road, it will have a pro tech, cheers mi duck, Speedy. :D

I'm very happy with my Readspeed copy of the BGM rear damper (apparently). Side by side they don't look that alike. However, what I don't like is them sending me a £200 VHSH with same (copy) jetting as my mates TS1. Same carb, same jetting, very different tune and pipe. Dangerously lean at 3/4 throttle. When I rang to ask for advice on richening the jetting at 3/4, which I was happy to pay for, I was told "that is right for your set up you'll have to bring it in for dyno". No discussion lost customer.
