Seeing as my wanted ad got no response I'm going to spend what i consider a reasonable price for a complete Lambretta with MOT on a clutch- basically I've got a very torquey 20 odd bhp engine and does the AF road clutch do as advertised, light lever, no slip, separates fully. Any experience with the clutch would be appreciated.

I've got a few bikes with different clutches.

I do have a rapido 225 etc with the AF road clutch in.

Clutch works fine, easy to fit etc etc etc.

However I definitely do not find it easy on the fingers. Its not what I would call light to the touch !!

I know sometimes it can depend on cable type used and cable route.

Just my opinion !!

Cheers for the response, that's exactly what I was after, I can get clutches to work but I was after something that would be more of a pleasure round town, 2 up.

28hp TS1 with road clutch. The action is light enough and seems to work fine.

i have a 'rocho ' 5 plate it can stand 30 hp needs a packer and is lighter than light, now for sale ready to fit £200

I did pm rocho a while back about clutches but didn't get a reply, I thought rocho clutches didn't need a packer and were £180 exchange for the 6 plate?

this uses a 6mm packer and does hold 30hp but cost £230 plus the packer,i have moved up the scale a little so the clutch is now redundant,get yer hand in yer pocket!

I had a rocho in my tsp a couple of years back and found it very light & smooth too.
Recommended.

Cheers for the offer and I am about to put my hand in my pocket but I don't need a packer for 20odd bhp - a rocho clutch would be good but I don't think he's doing them at the moment.

To pass on my recent experiences and to give credit where it is due, I'd just like to say that I've made a change to these clutches and now have then in 3 of my bikes.

Prior to setting off for this year's Euro I ran into clutch slip issues on a 5-plate that I'd previously run in my Avanti, without issue, including commuter use, Euro Avignon, IoM, and others. Because of the previously good performance, I ordered up some highly recommended 5-plate corks and some top of the line uprated springs, however, after 50 miles the clutch started slipping again. On removal I found that the corks had started to discolour (cook!) AND I also noticed that the billet clutch centre has the lower spring recess machined at a different diameter to the pressure plate. This alignment issue is so bad that you cannot put a clutch spring holding tool through to locate in the centre, although it goes through the pressure plate without issue. I noticed this alignment issue when initially rebuilding it and noticing that the springs bow out to the side when the compressor is tightened down, as the top of the spring is out of alignment with the bottom coils!

After much messing about, and knowing that I've had good service from the AF Road and Race clutches in other bikes, I bought one and fitted it before leaving. Instantly the slip had gone and the clutch didn't give me any issues whilst I was away. A well respected dealer's comment echoes around my head, which he stated after wasting hours trying to resolve customer's issues with assorted 5-plate assemblies, "The AF clutch is a fit and forget item." This is exactly what I wanted and exactly what it delivered.
