Just scored myself a proper scooter restorations SR185 barrel and head which Harry Barlow has reworked, now I need a piston as there isn't one with the kit, now I don't want to change the rod and run a jap piston but all there is available are pistons from either eBay, Beedspeed, or AF which all seem to be the same non-brand indian pistons, are these any good? I've heard stories or crap rings and ring pegs coming loose

Pretty sure I've heard of someone using a Suzuki TS185 piston. I'll see if I can find out some details.

Mugello piston will work, or an oversize SR?

Don't know about the muggy piston but scooter restorations don't sell the 64mm wire ringed piston any more

Muggy 64mm piston for the initial bore (no oversizes)...Then will your cylinder go to 66mm?

That said

not too sure, it started off originally as a SR175 barrel then it was taken out to and tuned by Harry Barlow to 185. I've considered the 66mm option as it would be cheaper to source a decent 200cc piston rather than forking out for a Muggy/MB etc piston. Don't want to go mental with it- just a 20/22mm carb and a slightly modified standard pipe, basically a stock standard 200cc lammy spec

Deanspeed from the US do a 186 piston, I think Corrado said he had some in stock a couple of weeks ago.
If you use the TS 185 piston you will have to top and tail the barrel or use a longer con rod.

If Harry has done the work, hasn't he got any suggestion as to what to use?

+1 on the deanspeed piston. 64mm and will slot straight in (check the clearance of course).
should be cheaper than a mugello piston.
