Hi all, due to a personal reasons, I've not ridden my scooter for 5 months. I've been trying to start it today and it's not having it. If I take the plug out, its dry, but if I put fuel into the plug hole, it'll fire up and run, but only very briefly. I left the fuel tap off, but didn't let the engine burn off the carb contents when I last used it. What do you think could be wrong? Any help would be most gratefully received. Thanks in advance Pete.

A dry plug would indicate no fuel. So either a faulty fuel tap or a fault in the carb. take "banjo" off carb and check fuel is coming out of tap/tank. If ok strip the carb apart, clean and try again. I would also drain tank and try with new fuel.

Thanks Mick, I should of said, there's plenty of fuel coming from the tank, as I've checked by taking the pipe off the carb. I've taken the carb off, to clean with some carb cleaner, hopefully that'll do the trick.

No doubt 2 stroke oil dried up in the jets and caused and crust blocking them ! Cleaning it all as you are should sort it.

Most probably is that but I had exactly the same problem when trying to re-start my Avanti after a top end rebuild. It would start and run for a few seconds if I poured fuel into the carb mouth but wouldn't even fire if I didn't. Plug was bone dry and spark was good. Stripped the carb and blew through all the jests and drillings but still the same :( .............................................Then I noticed that the choke cable had become detached from the lever, must have happened whilst the carb was removed while the engine was being re-built  Reconnected the cable and it fired up first kick 8-)
