If you haven't got £1500 in the bank i wouldn't start the build. As stated the major parts cost quite a bit but i found with my Avanti build it was the little bits that took me over "budget".
the budget also depends where you source your parts and the quality you feel you need. The difference between the top-end parts and the budget parts is probably more than double (both price and quality)....

if you already have quality parts like the clutch, brakes and bearings then your on your way. you can also save quite a bit buying cheaper second hand ancillary parts like the exhaust and carb. As far as the kits concerned id buy new off AF.
like all hi spec kits they have the ability to eat money and things easy get out of hand if you go by the 'buy cheap by twice' mantra....

Also you can use your existing gearbox with 19 x 46 sprockets
good combination

In my RB20 i ended up with a SIL crank (after going through two af ones ) with a 115 rod ( this requires 1mm taken of the bottom of the barrel) great cheap crank

and with 19/47 GP2 box a std 4 plate with strong springs is capable of handling the power (20bhp) keeps the cost down

standard 12 volt Indian will do the job, I have had both those and expensive ones pack up. This is one place where I'm not sure if more money spent necessarily guarantees longer life/quality.

I've just finished an RB20 build and I've spent close to £1300. I already had a gearbox, carb, rear hub, brake shoes, flywheel cowl, gear linkages, chain, chain tensioner and various internal and external fixings. I'd imagine you could throw another £500+ on top for those bits and bobs. It's not a cheap hobby this scootering malarkey is it?
