The standard Indian Mahle piston is actually an excellent piston and better than many of the Italian option... and a lot cheaper too! This is one of the items that the Indians improved on and should not be discounted.

As piston holing is not related to piston choice your mate must still look to rectify the issues that caused it to hole. Ignition timing, fuel burn temperature (fuel quality), jetting and fuel starvation are the most likely causes and should be looked at.

Good luck with it.

+1 Mahle from Scooter Restorations- about £35.00 and very good quality.

nowt wrong with a Mahle in a stage 4 (the rings were made to tight tolerances as well), leave the bottom ring off though, it does nowt , and the groove will hold extra oil in the bore for a bit of lubrication. if your mate has holed a piston, its under jetted, over timed, air leak, or s**t fuel. don't blame a piston , it wont hole itself ;)

I holed a piston at the Euro in Ireland due to under jetting of my 22mil Jetex carb on a standard Indian GP 200 engine. I replaced it with an Indian piston, up jetted to a 125 main, re-set the timing and it took me to the Euro in Belgium with no problems, and up into Holland after that. It's still going strong now.
