better to use a puller than a drift - some times the bearing is a tight fit even after heating the casing/freezing the bearing (mind sometimes they fall in)
couple of big washers/round plates and some threaded bar

This is not the full answer, but I noticed that the outer bearing race from the steering column is the correct diameter to rest on the outer race of the main drive-side bearing.
Now, what to do with this observation....... I thought about using it as the basis of a drift or a puller.

175 piston ?
Barrie B shows you how to make one from an old bearing in Scootering, can't remember the issue number. I made one and it works well.

I got a bearing extractor / fitting tool from Rich Presley a few years ago, it was expensive, over £50, but it's been a great tool and I must have used it over 50 times so paid for itself a few times over.

I bought a large bolt and nut, with a few large 62mm washers to use to pull the bearing in, trouble was I was scared of damaging the casing and needed 2 pairs of hands as the engine was still in the scooter. After heating the casing a freezing the bearing I ended up taping it in around the outside of the bearing.
