Hi guys,
Got a Gp with an original Osam or Grabor ignition switch with the original key, keys mint no wear but it just falls out, I would like to try and repair this, any idea how to do it, it works fine in every other way but key won't hold in place.
I did take one of these to bits back in the 90's but it was quite a challenge and I had a job removing the alloy surround from the black plastic middle section, any advise would be much appreciated.
Cheers Ian.

you can do it if you have a donar switch to play with but it must be an exact copy of your own
in the wires coming out of the back of the bakalite rear plate

basically the alloy housing needs to be machined down in a lathe to release the bakalite backplate
i think this is what jem does

not having a lathe then if you have a donar switch unit you can break up the bakalite in one
and the alloy housing in the other and then you can strip clean and reassemble the parts to make
one quality new/old ignition switch

the key falling out is usually down to a thin wire that holds in the latch springs which breaks or
jumps out of location and this means that the latches dont hold the key in position when in the switch

its a particularly fidely job but it can be done

the grabor switches are the most easy to rebuild
but the osam switches are an absolute bassa to reassemble
and best left to jem to use his expertese to rebuild

i can also confirm that having rebuilt a few for my own scooters
his prices are cheap for the amount of time involved

hope this helps

as with the others try jem but attach your key to a lanyard and put it round your handlebars

I use a retractable yo-yo like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Premier ... 3cd24548e3

This way, when the key falls out, it doesn't flap-about on the end of a bit of string, and retracts out of the way. Mine is clipped onto my brake reservoir.

In fact, having the key held on a retractable reel keeps a side-ways pressure on the key, and helps keep the key in the lock. An odd bi-product of using the retractable lanyard.

I gave up trying to restore mine and will get a remade one from beedspeed; they have one that comes with steering and toolbox lock all sharing the same key :) For less than 40 :)
