Trying to remove AF flywheel so I can replace low tension coil, when I used the flywheel extractor it stripped the threads in the boss,then tried 3 leg pulley through the slots but it just won't move, the engine was only built a few years ago with new race crank etc ..... Has anyone got any ideas I've never had his problem before . Cheers

get a quality puller; clean flywheel thread; try again

Used good extractor , didn't force it in , but it's so tight when turning extractor bolt it pulled the threads out

Perhaps moshed keyway?

What happens with the 3 leg puller, the push bolt just starts to flex or what?

Can you get a more sturdy puller with the legs arround the outside circumference of the flywheel?

Alternative? Remove top-end, drive sprocket assembly, grind/cut flywheel down to the boss, run-hook stator wiring, unfasten mag flange drift the crank and remains of flywheel out complete with mag flange? Messy!

You're going to think i'm a right old fusspot, but. You did remember to remove the Left-hand threaded nut didn't you ????

Going to try pulley again in the morning with more force, maybe worth try with a big pulley on the outside edge, I would have to notch mag housing to get legs in

few diferant makes of flywheel pullers; some are not so good

It' s been covered before but screw the extractor in best you can then weld it to the boss . Tighten bolt down and give it a good tap with a hammer then screw in fully to remove flywheel .Scooter Restorations sell a new bolt in boss. I've used Buzetti extractors for years ,never had a problem.

Maybe a blast with the blow torch and the centre punch to help it along?

If you have the ability to cut a decent groove on the inside of the boss you could try the 'Vespa' method: cut a tight parrallel walled groove, fit the fly nut, put a high tensile circlip in the groove and back the nut off: with luck it will bring the flywheel with it...

This is the route I went down once with bolloxed flywheel threads. Worked a treat.
