Mate asked me to fix is GP200 engined Ser 2, picked it up, and like he said wouldn`t go, petrol, spark, but spark was weak and intermittent, checked stator readings all seemed ok, changed CDI, still wouldn`t go, removed flywheel expecting to find an Indian stator only to find a newish looking BGM unit, hmm I thought, anyway fitted new BGM stator and it started up straight away, all the readings seemed good on the old stator, now would the pick up have failed, can this be checked, one thing I did notice on the flywheel when replacing it was a small piece of swarf was stuck in the gap between the magnets which trigger the pickup, it was very small but the magnetism was holding it there, would this have been the cause,
it would be nice if I could get the old stator checked, and if faulty get it repaired.
BGM Stator failure ?

It's possible but the only way would know would be to put it back and try it.
The change in the fields around the pickup because of the break in the magnet is what triggers the discharge pulse to the cdi if the swarf was confusing that or bridging the triggers that might make it erratic,

15 years ago on the way home from the untouchables weekend at Ryde my 225 suddenly cut out, I took the flywheel off and noticed a small piece of swarf between the pickups. I plucked it out, replaced the flywheel and rode home with no further issues

I`ll have to try it on another scoot.
