I've been offered a GP legshield and want to know if it's Italian or Indian. I was under the impression that the badge holes were the give away. On Italian leggies "Lambretta" badge holes should be 70mm and "Grand Prix" and 'dl' badge should be 36mm--is this correct?

Any other way of telling for sure without them fitted? Yea I'm being a trainspotter about them  but I they are for my DL200 so I want to do it properly (for once!)

Thanks!

I started a topic on the old LCGB site regarding differences between indian and italian leggies, there was some intersting conversation going on with regards to the shape of them, i have an indian Gp purchased frm rayspeed and the legshields appear to be a bit squarer at the top than some others but it appears there have been different legshields fitted to both indian and Itlain GP's, i never did get a difinitive answer. I asked Ben at rayspeed and he said that teh squarer type were indian and they altered the tooling slightly, however others claimed to have original Gp and they also had the same squarer type and claimed the very roundedd ones were indian. anyway have a butchers you may find itof interest if your a bit anoracky about certain things like me ;)

Thanks! I suspected so but wanted a second opinion.

Cookie I read your thread on the LCGB several months ago and it was of great interest  as I'd just picked up a farm-find GP/DL200 that was otherwise clean apart from rot in the legshields. Feel free to PM me if you find out anymore info (or want to count rivets   )

If I recall there did indeed appear to be square and rounded variations be they Italian or Indian leg shields. One theory was that it was the way in which they were stacked and the ones on the bottom being flatter. Although, I think it's highly likely that they used more than one press and there may have been variations between them.
