my speedo was working fine apart from the old waving scenario when recently I started hearing a grinding like noise which I think was coming from the headset or it could have been coming from the drive at the bottom of the forks. Then the speedo stopped working. I have taken the speedo cable off and checked either end(Still nice and square) and then replaced the same speedo cable but it still not working. The question I have is, Are there any other components that can fail to cause this speedo issue?

Put the speedo cable back in and make sure the squared end does not go in too far; tighten that end up. Take the headset off and lean the bike and spin the front wheel. Now you should see the inner cable rotating at the headset end. Play with it for a while; if it won't rotate then the speedo drive assembly is at fault; either the drive ring fixed inside the hub or the unboltable drive assembly.
If it is rotating then it's the speedo itself.
If it is rotating then it's the speedo itself.
