I've splashed out some MB stainless exhaust studs (oval exhaust port) and when I came to fit them one side of the stud has less thread than the other. I'd have though the side with most thread went in the cylinder but then the shorter side didn't seem to accommodate the washers and slightly longer MB brass nut. So I fitted the side with the shorter length of thread into the cylinder leaving the longer side coming out. This seems right from how it looks but I'm struggling with the logic of having less thread in the cylinder itself.

Help out with an explanation (and confirmation I've put them in the correct way round)?!

Thanks

John
