could someone kindly tell me where all the correct earthing points should be on a 1964 series 3 ( batteryless 6 pole stator)

I have replaced the one on the headlamp and moved it to the throttle bush clamp but I cannot find any earth strap to the engine from the frame to earth the spark plug ?
This scoot has had a Vespa PX200 coil fitted in the past but its just bolted to the frame with a very poor earth connection.
The condensor and points have a soldered connection and again the soldered joint looks very poor (dry joint)

How do you all ensure good earthing for the ignition circuit and lighting

should be a 2 part thin metal earthing strap from the rear of the junction box on the N/S rear strut. This should be bolted to the back of the junction box (and naturally the frame) and one earth goes to the coil, and the other to the rear bolt that holds the fan cowling on.

If you haven't got this wire, then the engine is probably earthing to the frame care of the rear brake cable!- it may work OK but is not advised.

You should also have an earth from the rear lamp and one in the headset. The horn works by earthing at the switch to complete the circuit the speed bulb earths through the bulb holder but this is often poor.

ah thanks Chris ....that makes perfect sense. My scoot was missing the rear junction box and the stator wires had been slashed through and rejoined in a electrical connecting strip which was hanging on the wires. Whoever had done that forgot to put the earth strap back.

I could see that the scoot didn't have one to earth the spark plug but I couldn't see where it should connect.
I'll order up a cable tonight. F*%$ me the're expensive

Thanks Roscla
I will improve the earthing to the lights and horn when I put the headset and rear lens back on. It was the ignition circuit I was having trouble with. I can't seem to find any exploded parts diagrams so i can identify the bits missing from my scoot.
