I know these are supposed to be a matching pair with the engine block.
Whats the problems fitting a random one ? Is there must of a difference?

When i was young my Mom said "if you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing at all " ..................... and people wonder why I'm quiet around them !
i have found that endplates do vary in the fact that the layshaft bearingsd are upto 2.5mm out of line . i beleive they were machined as a pair in the factory . i had a guide made that was a straight layshaft welded into a a bearing shaped piece of steel which was then pressed into the casing and tried various endplates on , until i found one that fitted perfectly on the studs, dowels and bearing face

That's a good idea. I've got about a dozen casings that are separated from their endplates. I now keep the endplate in the casing when I strip an engine down. You live and learn!mark wrote:i have found that endplates do vary in the fact that the layshaft bearingsd are upto 2.5mm out of line . i beleive they were machined as a pair in the factory . i had a guide made that was a straight layshaft welded into a a bearing shaped piece of steel which was then pressed into the casing and tried various endplates on , until i found one that fitted perfectly on the studs, dowels and bearing face
