How did you manage to compress the cush drive spring???

Hi all,
I'm close to desperation trying to compress this fooking cush drive spring to let the long bolt getting to the crank thread?
I'm getting mad cos 3 mm is missing to do it easily... Any tips?

If you are using a genuine bolt then it should start in the crank threads by pushing down with the socket wrench as you turn unless it is an Indian bolt and separate thick washer with a double spring washer which makes the bolt too short to reach the crank.

standard sprocket/sleeve/sliding dog/spring and a mbdev bolt. It appears to be 1mm longer than the standard one....

If all is well with the 2 halves of the cush drive seated, the thread of the bolt should engage with the thread in the crank well before the spring starts to compress
Eithet the bolt is too short or it's not assembled properly. The next problem will be getting the splines to line up so that the outer spring cup slides down fully.

Post a photo of what you are doing. That's an easy job getting that all together. Just eyeball it and hold the top piece in line with the sleeve and run the bolt home.
I can see if the sleeve teeth or top teeth are not in good shape then the fit can be tough.
Be careful not to use a S1 spring since its shorter.

line up the tabs before you put the bolt in.......
slowly turn the bolt in until its finger tight while holding the top piece........
then tap the top of the spring with a mallet, you will hear and feel the difference when the tabs are lined up because the spring will compress. don't beat it to death just little taps.
once its lined up perfectly tighten the bolt down.
Simples
mmm just re read what you posted and you aint got that far yet.
sounds to me like you have at least one part of the assembly the wrong way round.

It's been a pain to do it... I had to put the spring in the jaws to shrink it of almost 2mm. My new spring was 5 mm longer than my old tired one. SD was also different (italian model with a deeper cut). The 2 combined gave a 8 mm gap compared to the previous combination...

PS: I forgot the paper gasket under the drive plate when building it... I have to undo the whole thing... Sticky's is unclear and don't mention it precisely....
