Hi All
just thought I would ask for some advice on which top end to put on my touring engine that i am in the process of building.
What I have so far - SX200 engine casing, 58/107 AFR race crank, Complete GP150 for it's internals ( I know the gearbox isn't the best but that's what I have), 18/47 sprockets (gives 4.8 FD with this box), Surflex 4 plate and MB springs, 28/30mm PHBH, Intermediate Flywheel and BGM stator, I plan to use a NK Rally or Taffspeed copy exhaust.
What I am after is good and bad's for the following choices of top end kits - MBRT225, TS1, Monza 225, Mugello 225, rebored iron cylinder, GT200 or an Avanti choices choices.
Any advice greatly received, Andy.

Hi Andy, have you used the search facility, most of these kits have been discussed extensively on here or LCGB, some of them very recently

As always you will get arguments for each and allsorts of advice. For what its worth from what i have read on here i would get the Avanti

The Avanti would suit the gearing especially with the NK. On my my Avanti i run a 4 plate clutch (BGM plates i think ?) and MB springs. The Avanti was built with touring in mind and it certainly fits the bill.

totaly disagree with a good tourer, your always up and down your gearbox, depends on what speed you call touring which kit to go for

Dont be fooled by thinking the avanti is just another tourer ! Set up right she will stretch your shoulder ligaments, and holds her own

The top end is only part of it, the exhaust can make a hell of difference. Not sure what Ducksta means regarding a tourer ? is it a dig at the Avanti ? My take on a tourer is that a tourer is an engine that will sit at a set speed for a length of time, ie motorway running and also handle hills and bends with ease. The Avanti seems capable of cruising at 60mph and with it's low down grunt can pull hills with ease.........depending on the exhaust.
TS1's are a good all round option although designed for slightly shorter gearing they certainly perform. Matched with an Avanti head they look to be a good option.
Muggelos and Monzas are nice reliable kits, with the monza offering a proven option for tuning.
MB and GT both have a good spec' but as of yet are untested in their longevity.
For me the Avanti looks to be market leader for a "Tourer"

My Rapido Classic 225 has never been found wanting - balls out or touring one or two up.
