Looking at the CamLam (http://www.lambretta.co.uk/downloads/vari1.jpg) site and a drawing showing the Varitronic regulator i compared it to the BGM site (http://medias.scooter-center.com/bgm-regulator.pdf). The shape of the regulators are identical yet the terminals functions are completely different. Also the BGM site doesn't use the battery charge from the stator (this is left disconnected). The last difference i can see is that BGM use a link across 2 of the regulator terminals whereas CamLam don't............all a bit confusing really :?:

Can anyone shed any light on these differences.

Looking at both drawings they are very
Much the same. The cam lam one does not show the link wire needed if you want to charge a battery or run anything direct using DC.
looking at the drawings I was impressed with the BGM ones they are very clear. I think the link is shown on the BGM drawings should you want to run DC. With the Camlam ones they must get asked how do I run DC. It only mentions charger.

The pin out positions may differ, but the regs are exactly the same, function wise. The bgm is a generic reg designed to be run with a stator that has 2 outputs, one for ac the other for dc. The bgm is sold with the link to split the one feed from a standard stator into 2. The sense function blurb is bullshit.
Fitting the bgm to the varitronic stator, in the fashion described in their booklet, is not the best way to go, as you won't be making best use of the stator's power (you are, in fact, leaving part of the stator unused, while asking the rest to do more).
