Can anyone tell what I should set my timing to on an Imola please?

I can tell you i set mine at 19* BTDC

which imola kit do you have?

Version 1 or 2

i would set it at 17deg just to be on the safe side, cam lam recommend 15deg on version 3 kit, ive been running mine at 17deg but started to hole a piston due to an air leak.

I`ve got the Ultimate kit and thats set at 16 deg .

An air leak causing damage has no bearing on the timing setting.

If Cam-Lam give a recommended setting, use it.

I run one of the very first Imola kits ever produced which i bought from Cam-Lam. I fitted it in yr 2001 ( from memory) It has always been set to 19* BTDC. Apart from some protracted jiggling with the jetting (28mm PHBH) it has been faultless. I stripped the top-end last winter, just to check how it was looking. It looked like it had just come out the box with the exception of a fine coke layer on the piston crown. It has done around 6000 miles (though a repeatedly faulty speedo makes this an estimate)

never said air leak had anything to do timing, i was just stating a fact what caused the damage to my piston. timing can hole pistons. If i remember rightly early imolas ran 19deg and later kits 15deg, it would be intresting to hear from other imola users out there on there versions and set ups, obliviously things change with todays crap fuels etc. Maybe we should start a IMOLA only thread, i think theres plenty of us out there

I run my Imola at 17 degrees and never had a problem, not sure what version it is but the reed block is recessed into the inlet manifold. When first built it was set up at 19 degrees again with no issues. Hope this helps.
