whilst following on from my other thread re the engine temp / new rings issue I today went to check that the main jet wasn't blocked.

Im sure you know what's coming..................

Allen key adapter fell off handle I never noticed it fell down the hole into the casings.

Started engine up ........... Engine stops . Kick start and fly wheel jammed solid.

Fly wheel moves back and forth an inch tops .

Does this mean full engine strip to remove socket and what sort of damage would this type of incident cause ????????????????

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o Not happy bunny at all.

Hopefully it stayed above the piston and the damage is limited to piston and head

Surely the only way it would get above the piston was to have fallen in the spark plug hole or gone up the transfer?

If it went in the inlet or through the Venturi of the carb then it's gone through the bottom end and is likely wedged in the crank chamber somewhere.

I think you're going to have to start with stripping off the top end and working down, at least once you got the barrel off you'll be able to take a look in the crankcase.

oh feck, that does not sound good, especially if it fired up then cut out? The forces in there will have done a lot of damage , only way to know for sure is as Ross has said whip top end off.

I would phil, you could have damaged the induction pad on the cases, or took a chunk out of something. even if you get the socket out with a magnet, there could always be the possibility of some bits left in there. small bits of metal make f****n big problems when they are whirring around in an engine. sorry if its not want you want to hear, but better safe than sorry eh. oh...YA CLUMSY tw@7!
