Hi,

I would appreciate some thoughtful input from the knowledgable comley gents and ladies of this forum on this topic (abuse, inuendo, slander and gud 'ol anglo saxon will be absorbed in the pursuit).

Please suggest the 'best' (= most secure) method to 're-centre' a clutch spyder (or 'inner bell' for the aflficted).

This is virgin territory for me so please forgive!

Budget is also somewhat limited ;-)

I have a plan as such, but am not convinced it is the best way.

The spyder centre is a standard one, but it is rivveted to a 'Chiselspeed' billet basket. (The centre has worn causing wobble between the spyder and crown, fck knows how but it has but it has).

Has anyone had to replace the spyder center? And how did you go about it?

Any decent Input appreciated on this one!

Ta

If the spider is worn on the area the bush/bearings fit, AF's did sell an oversized 6 plate bush to fit their billet spider . I ground the heads off the rivets , knocked them through and fitted an Innocenti centre as the Indian one was undersized then refitted the rivets and welded it all back together. The clutch spider was used in a top Group 4 race bike this year with no problems. Just make sure everything runs true and is clamped before welding.

Just the answer I was looking for thanks Lloyd!

I'll check the AF option 1st. (I owe Ben a call already to find out about the lack of Rapido 250 2nd. O/S pistons when I need one) ;-)

I'll check for clearance on what is probbably my last Innocenti spider.

My 'proposed' method was to grind-off the lower rivvet heads. Press out the rivvets. Counter sink spider component. Tap oversize. Fit high tensile allen caps from the top. Weld the bottom in the counter sink. Grind flush.Perhaps over weld the the topside.

Method for ensuring concentricity (which is essential to success): do one rivvet at a time  and adjust in progress.

If the oversize bush thing fails, would u mind fixing mine for me?

Cheers

Andy (Just up the road a bit in Lincs)

PS. Is that Avatar of yours you going round Caddy on a GTS?

You won't catch me on an auto :o its my GP. Can't see why your method won't work but the centre is hardened and would be hard to machine I would have thought? Let me know how it goes and if you get stuck PM me.
