right, this is annoying me so thought I'd ask those that know more than me for a bit of advice.

I have a 12v indian electronic setup on a wassell conversion and it runs, but set the ignition at 18btdc and it feels reluctant to pull if that makes sense?

all set up with new marks on the mag housing and checking tdc with a positive stop method (this is on a mugello 186 / 48mm clubby and a 30phbh (Ive gone through the jetting too after a previous post mentioned this being affected when going to a static timing electronic as I previously had a variotronic)

Just advanced the ignition a bit but is now at 21btdc but pick up is much much better! Im worried it'll run to hot though?

Now in my mind I should be happy using the new marks on the mag to line up with the flywheel arrow, but at 18 or even at 21 the double mark in the window that should line up with the white line on the pickup doesn't and it's nagging me that they should, however, all advice is normally to never trust the marks on indian flywheels.

So I guess Im just after a sounding board here incase ive missed something obvious?? You know? Wood for the trees and all that?

Oh, and I've also made sure that it's the correct electronic boss and not a points one

So anyone got anythoughts?

While I wait Im going to nip back in the shed and move the stator back between the two positions so that it's closer to 19 I think and see how it runs.

I'd recommend strobing it

What Ian said, Paul. I'd always strobe and never just trust static (try saying that a few times after a Guiness or two)

start from scratch and set your own marks, time from that and check with strobe

my muggy was at 15 degree in the end, but I had expansion so maybe that makes a difference?

I take it that, as you have set it at 18 & 21 degrees without using the flywheel/pick up marks, you can only have done so by using a strobe light.
But at what rpm are you strobing it?

If you are just worried about the lines (flywheel and pickup) being a million miles out compared to your own marks... I've had exactly the same when using Indian flywheels and/or stators and never had issue working to my marks.

If you are happy with TDC and your marking of the firing point, and have strobed it accordingly, I'd ignore what the supplied marks are telling you.

When I say static I mean as in it's a static (not varitronic / agusto)

All marks were new by me and double checked and everything strobed properly at between 1/8th to 1/4 throttle

if you had a variatronic originaly then your timing was probably 23 degrees retarding to 17 degrees.

so if you are now at 18 then what you are describing is what i would expect having compared the variatronic and af kit.

why have you binned the variotronic?

Lighting coils had heat damage but I was binning it anyway in favour of going to better lighting with a wassell conversion, which is working brilliantly so not regretting it at all.

Its just it doesnt feel as quick as it used to.

Wondering if I wen't onto a lightened flywheel if it would help or not

try the augusto or the chiselspeed one, you will get what you had before.

im not a fan of the variotronic, my lights were not as good and crap on tickover compared to the af kit.

lightened flywheel gives better pick up but not as pleasent to ride when trying to maintain a cruising speed so ive put all mine on the shelf in favour of gaining power elswhere. (each to their own)
