At the moment I've got a 30mm dellorto carb that was fitted by previous owner it's running along side 186 imola , taffy replica pipe , pacemaker box , bgm 120 stator , lightened fly wheel . It runs a open mouth carb and I've noticed the amount of fuel spit / wastage I'm wondering if the carb is just too big and if so what size to chop it in for .

If I'm not mistaken the Imola was designed to run with a 30mm Dellorto carb, so I'd say it's ok to use with your set up. What are the condition of the reeds like and Is it jetted properly? Damaged reeds would cause some spit back.

Has it ever been on a dyno? Get it set up properly.

God know's i'm no expert, but I thought spit back was all down to port timings/openings, if so a change of carb won't cure the problem. Perhaps a reed valve might do the trick and save on petrol too :?:
