Know lots about lambretta engines, but this is my first dip into a Vespa engine. I bought this 1975 Rally 200 engine a few years back because I was an an Ebay scooter addict and it was only £300. I was told that there was a problem with the kickstart.

Once I had split the casing, I noticed that it did not have the coiled kickstart spring. One is shown in the picture sat in the greased area, but this is a new one. However, there is a piece of sprung metal fixed to the casing, (two bright steel pins holding it in place) which looks like it pushes up on the kickstart quadrant gear. But looking at photos of other casings, I have never seen this sprung metal before. Has anyone any clues as to what it is??

its just a K-S return spring plate. why its got an extra spring? the plate may have lost its "springyness" (new word ive just made up) and someones fitted a normal spring to make the K-S work.they were used on older vespas before the P-range.

Thanks for that Goldeneye.

I guess that I can still use the new idle gear spring, whilst the K-S spring plate is still there.

Is it possible to fully compress the spring with the K-S plate there?
