Hi all,
I need a new flywheel,currently using indian stator and long fin flywheel,my mate has lent me a lightened AF flywheel which when fitted,even with a smaller flywheel cowl still has about a 15mm gap between fins and cowl! will this cause cooling issues?

I've also noticed that the timimg mark and trigger magnets are in a different place which will mean making new timing marks and i guess elongating the holes on the stator to be able to achieve correct timing,is this normal?

When you say 'in a different place' do you mean in relation to each other?

If so then you'd be better ignoring the marks and strobing it, probably best to do that anyway.

Yes in relation to eachother e.g using the woodruff key groove as a reference point,the arrow on the AF is far more advanced than the arrow on the indian (and the same with the pick up magnets)

It almost looks to me as if the centre boss has been fitted incorrectly,eg a rivet out!

I dont think i'll be able to move my stator enough to acheive the correct timing (will be strobing)

I think that's not an unknown problem, which was why I asked. I just wanted to ensure you weren't talking about the two marks that are supposed to align with the fingers on the magnetic poles and the line on the pickup.

If that is the case you'll never get enough adjustment by moving the stator or filing the slots.

If it is one of those you can drill out the rivets and bolt it back together with the correct alignment.

Cheers! I've borrowed it off a mate as a stop gap,think i'll just get a new short finned indian one and be done with it!

What about the huge gap with the af between the fins and cowling,doesn't that cause a cooling issue,i've read on here that the fins need to be as close to the cowl as possible for optimum cooling?
