What to time at ?

I,m gonna have a go at setting the timing on my lammy , its an indian midly tuned ally barrelled 225 with 30mm delly and scoots rs exhaust , what degree timing should it be set at please ?

Best done with a strobe gun and set to 18 or 19 degrees considering modern unleaded fuels and additives (ethanol), but for your state of tune no lower.

All depends on your compression ratio. The range is probably 19 to 16... but the lower figure would only be required if the compression ratio is too high for your porting.

Haven't got a strobe gun I was just gonna use a dial gauge , looking to finish it for brid so if I set it to 18º will I be alright ?

which is the type I use. Needs a battery supply. You need to have the scoot warmed up and revving at a constant speed to set the timing correctly. It is more accurate than static timing.

PoP. Instructions come with it, but it's very simple. Start scoot and get warmed up. Switch off. Clip the red slide clip around your HT lead with the arrow on the slide clip facing your spark plug. Connect the two other leads to your battery. Make sure the leads can't foul on the spinning flywheel. Restart scoot and with revs around the 2000 mark, point gun at flywheel marks and pull trigger on gun. You'll then see flashing stobe make timing marks appear static and look to see if marks line up. If not, disconnect everything. Remove flywheel and move stator to whichever direction it needs to be so that when tested again, timing marks line up. Seemples
