I agree. Buy a set of LML casings and start from there. They have already got the reed valve set up and you can start tuning from there. Manifold, RD reeds, large carburettor and match the casings to your top end of your choice. You can get a set of casings for around £100. I am currently building this type of engine at the moment. I had it on the road for a few months this year and it was lightening in 2nd and 3rd, brilliant fun in the town and cities. Did not manage any long journeys as the casings had a hairline crack, which led to all sorts of problems, so had to put a PX150 back in, very slow but reliable.

I agree as well. T5 casings are getting rare...put your T5 lump to one side and buy a cheaper PX 125 lump, but put a Quattrinni 172 on it , with the reed on the barrel, probably cheaper to do ( good cheap px125 expansion pipes are cheaper 2nd hand than the same for a T5, and a standard modded PX crank will handle decent HP) keep the T5 lump for when it blows up......................

what do you want your T5 to do? my 172 malossi (28mm carb/sito plus/ 21 clutch cog/MMW head) pulls like a train, but only does 70mph,but is great for rally-ing, with luggage etc. if I put the JL righthand pipe on, it does 80mph, but isn't as good to ride. i class it as like having a Mugello 186, /28 delly/clubman on a lammy. good touring set up. it does 100+ miles per 8ltr tank as well...

yeah, know what you mean! to be honest , anything over 70mph on a P-range for any amount of time is tiring, cruise at 55-60, a bit of oomph for overtaking and good MPG is what I was aiming for , as well as doing the same 2"s up. its a cracking motor for a 172cc, but I really need to put the disc brake from my P200 on to make it proper custy, as I'm finding it hard to stop properly with the drum on the front 2"s up

I did Lejog in 2006 there was a lad doing it from Ireland on a T5 with the 172 kit. I could'nt get near him on my P2, the T5 standard motor is a great engine, with the 172 it's a different animal all together.

cracking motors man. ive ran P200"s for years as my everyday scooters, had a couple of T5"s, but always liked p2s.. thought I would have a change and using this as the workhorse. not any faster than a standard T5 , but the extra OOMPH, and capability up hills and loaded etc. make it a topper rally bike.
